"The Ragged Ones" is set in the Maluti Mountains of Lesotho, The Rooftop Kingdom of Africa. The Basotho are a healing people who despite Famine, Aids and Poverty continue to make a science out of their beliefs in witchcraft. We visited the people of Ha Soai and are introduced to Ntate Leu, a renowned Ngaka (traditional healer) who tells us something of the plants he uses in his medicine. He also tells us about Lethuela (another type of traditional healer). We also meet Me Mofokeng, a Lethuela, who tells us about her practice and confronts the issue of AIDS. The film is structured in a visually poetic style (5 Vignettes) and the audience is invited to share a little time with these mountain people, from whom we can still learn so much.

"The Ragged Ones" spielt in den Maluti Mountains von Lesotho, dem Königreich auf dem Dach Afrikas. Die Basotho sind bemerkenswerte Menschen, die trotz Hungersnot, AIDS und Armut weiterhin eine Wissenschaft aus ihrem Glauben an die Kraft der Hexerei machen. Wir besuchen die Leuten von Ha Soai und werden Ntate Leu, einem berühmten Ngaka (traditioneller Heiler) vorgestellt, der uns etwas von den Pflanzen erzählt, die er in seiner Medizin benutzt. Er erzählt uns auch über Lethuela (ein anderer Typ des traditionellen Heilers), bevor wir Me Mofokeng, eine Lethuela treffen, die uns über ihre Praktiken berichtet und uns mit dem Thema AIDS konfrontiert. Der Film ist struktuiert in einem visuell poetischen Stil (5 Vignettes) und die Zuschauer werden eingeladen, etwas Zeit mit diesen Leuten in den Bergen zu verbringen, von denen wir immer noch sehr viel lernen können.
